A haunting coming-of-age film, Wunderkinder illustrates how the bonds of friendship are powerful enough to overcome barriers of religion and nationality, even at a time of war. Jewish siblings Larissa and Abrascha are violin virtuosos who befriend Hanna, a young German girl, who shares their passion for music. Their friendship is put to the test when the Nazis invade their small Ukrainian town. The naturalistic performances by the lead characters are made all the more authentic by the fact that the characters of Larissa and Abrascha are played by real-life violin virtuosos, who play beautiful music in the film. Wunderkinder is a mesmerizing Holocaust drama told through the perspective of children.
