“A triumph of personal documentary filmmaking” (Israel film scholar Amy Kronish). The camera of filmmaker Arnon Goldfinger (Komediant, TJFF 2001) is on hand as his family begins to clear the apartment of their deceased German grandmother. Along with the typical items that amassed over the 96 years of her life, they find Nazi propaganda material written by a nobleman by the name of Von Mildenstein. Arnon Goldfinger begins to explore the friendship that seemed to exist between the Von Mildensteins and his grandparents. He searches out and pores over archival material in an attempt to discover the truth. Winner of the Israeli Oscar for best documentary, The Flat is both a fascinating mystery, as well as a rich exploration of Israeli identity and memory.
