An enchanting love letter to Yiddish theatre by celebrated Israeli filmmaker Avraham Heffner (But Where is Daniel Wax?). Rita Zohar (Mrs. Moskowitz and the Cats, TJFF 2010) plays Laura Adler, the beautiful middle-aged star of an obscure Yiddish theatre troupe in Israel, sustained by a loyal but aging audience. While revelling in the camaraderie of her colleagues and a fling with a younger man, Laura is confronted with her mortality, leading her to rediscover her commitment to the theatre. Fans of Yiddish theatre will delight in Heffner’s keen eye for so many of its theatrical conventions.
An understated gem that truly deserves to be rediscovered.
